Barbara has 6 direct ancestors who sailed on the Mayflower in
1620:
John
Howland at
age 20 (Barbara's 9th great-grandfather) and
Elizabeth
Tilley at
age 13 (Barbara's 9th great-grandmother) were among the passengers on the
Mayflower when it sailed in 1620. John and Elizabeth would marry
about 1623 and Barbara is a direct descendant of Hope, one of their 10
children.
Elizabeth's
parents,
John
Tilley
(Barbara's 10th great-grandfather) and
Joan
(Hurst) Tilley,
(Barbara's 10th great-grandmother) were also passengers on the Mayflower.
They both died that first winter in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Barbara's
9th Great Grandmother,
Constance
Hopkins
sailed on the Mayflower at age 15. Also on the Mayflower was
Constance's father,
Stephen
Hopkins,
who is Barbara's 10th Great
Grandfather. (Constance is the daughter of Stephen's first wife, Constance
(Dudley) Hopkins 1580-1611 who died long before the Mayflower sailed in
1620.)
Born
on the Mayflower during the voyage was Constance's baby half-brother. The
parents named him Oceanus Hopkins. He survived the voyage but died in 1627
at Plymouth, Massachusetts. He was the first of several children born
during the voyage.
